I had a chalazion on my lower eyelid, which looks similar to a stye but is actually not an infection and therefore not helped by antibiotics. A chalazion is a blocked gland in the eyelid. After enduring several rounds of antibiotic ointment and then oral antibiotics, etc. from my optometrist’s office to little avail, I saw Dr. Rizzuto, who is an ocular plastic surgeon. Dr. Rizzuto diagnosed the chalazion, and we made plans for it to be surgically removed. My insurance was out of network for their surgical center, so the team scheduled my surgery for in-office which my insurance did indeed cover. The procedure itself went smoothly and recovery went as expected. I have no scar now, and my lower eyelid again looks normal!
