Brow Lift Surgery
A brow lift is also called forehead rejuvenation, and it works by lifting the skin on the brow line to create a more refreshed, alert expression. Many patients seeking a brow lift have significant drooping that holds up their brows. This can be caused by weakened muscles, a condition called brow ptosis.
General skin laxity changes from aging cause many patients to seek out the services of Dr. Rizzuto; brow lifts are one of the most common requests he receives from those looking for a natural and highly impactful facial rejuvenation treatment.
Brow Ptosis
Eyebrows Dropping Lower Than Normal
Brow Ptosis results from a weakening of the primary muscles that hold up the brow. This can be caused by aging, trauma or previous eye surgery. Correction of mild to moderate Brow Ptosis can be accomplished through an incision directly above the brows, in the forehead creases, or at the hairline. For more significant cases of Brow Ptosis, or to address deep frown lines or lateral hooding of the upper lids, it may be necessary to raise the brows and forehead through incisions hidden behind the hairline. The muscles that pull the brow down and crease the forehead skin are relaxed, which allow the brow to be raised into a more youthful position.
How to Prepare for a Brow Lift Procedure
The first stage of preparation is a consultation with Dr. Rizzuto to discuss your candidacy for a brow lift in Providence, RI. He will assess your current skin concerns and determine whether a brow lift is the most appropriate procedure for your desired results.
If you are deemed to be a good fit for a brow lift, you will schedule a date for your procedure. A physical exam will be performed, and we will require you to stop smoking and avoid certain prescription medications for two weeks to a month leading up to surgery.
Dr. Rizzuto will make incisions at the hairline, near the temples, or even directly remove skin above the eyebrows depending on your needs. The entire procedure takes one to two hours, and you will need someone to drive you home afterward.
We will provide aftercare instructions to help you reduce swelling and discomfort, so you can recover comfortably over the coming weeks.
Downtime & Recovery
You may have your head bandaged and a tube placed to assist drainage for the first few days after your brow lift. Over the next few days, it will be important to rest with your head in an elevated position, avoid exposing or touching your surgical site, and apply cold compresses to alleviate post-operative swelling.
Itching and numbness are common side effects of a brow lift, which will lessen as your sutures heal. Most patients have their sutures removed in a week to 10 days while bandages can come off after a few days.
Brow lift recovery will vary from patient to patient, but on average, it takes approximately two weeks to fully recover.
