What is Broadband Light (BBL)?
BroadBand Light (BBL) delivers light energy to gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate. In addition, the light energy penetrates deep into the skin to boost your body’s natural ability to fight the appearance of aging. The system delivers a combination of flexibility, speed, patient comfort, and efficiency.
What can Broadband Light Therapy (BBL) treat?
- Acne
- Pigmented Lesions (Sun Damage & Age Spots)
- Vascular Lesions (Cherry Angiomas, Blood Vessels, & Rosacea)
- Deeper Lesions / Darker Skin Types
- Hair Removal
Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin’s condition and your desired results. One treatment often achieves amazing results, however, up to 3-5 treatments may be necessary for certain skin types and conditions. Your procedure may take a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of the procedure performed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my BBL treatment results permanent?
Once you've completed your recommended treatment regimen, you can expect to enjoy smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin for an extended period of time. You may have fewer age spots and signs of sun damage. Visible blood vessels may have disappeared completely or be much lighter, and you may notice far fewer fine lines in problem areas. These effects can last for months without any further treatment. With that being said, it is advantageous to follow up your BBL with periodic touch-ups or with other services, such as Botox/Fillers.
How can I prepare for my BBL treatment?
- Use sunscreen and physical sun protection.
- Avoid extended sun exposure, i.e. beach, travel to sunny locations, sunbathing, sports outdoors.
- Starting two weeks before your BBL treatment, avoid using sunless tanning products.
- Starting about seven days before your appointment, stop using retinol products and chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid and salicylic acid.
- Don't schedule waxing or a chemical peel in the week before your BBL treatment.
- Inform your doctor of any medical conditions or medications you are taking that might sensitize you to light, affect wound healing or affect coagulation.
What should I expect during my BBL treatment?
- The procedure is typically gentle and safe.
- There is no need for a topical anesthetic, however, your clinician may choose to use it.
- Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses.
- You may briefly feel a warm or rubber band snap sensation as the light is absorded.
What should I expect after my BBL treatment?
- You may experience some redness in the treatment area that should resolve within a few hours.
- You may notice darkening of your pigmented spots, followed by faded and flaking off at a later stage. DO NOT pick or scratch the treated area.
- Follow your clinician’s aftercare plan until your skin is completely healed- typically one week after the treatment. The skin on your body might take longer to heal, compared to your face.
What should I avoid after my BBL treatment?
- Use soft warm cloth or towel to clean your skin, avoiding any harsh scrubbing.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat or sun protecting clothing post treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until after the skin has healed.
When will I see the results from my BBL treatment?
Each person may differ slightly in the speed at which they see results. This is due in part to the nature of the problem we're addressing and in part to the body's natural responses. If you choose to have this treatment done to eliminate unwanted hair, you can expect to see a noticeable difference in the smoothness of your skin within a day or two as old, vaporized hairs fall out. If you receive BBL™ treatment to reduce sun damage or the signs of aging, you can expect the overall condition of your skin in the treatment area to improve over the course of several weeks. In this scenario, we anticipate that you'll see appreciative results one to two weeks after your procedure.
