How Does Botox Work?
Botox, along with Dysport and Xeomin are medicines (neuromodulators) composed of a form of botulinum toxin that is used to relax targeted facial muscles. These medicines inhibit nerve signals from reaching the muscles and preventing the muscles from contracting. By temporarily weakening these muscles, your face is able to relax and create a softer, more rested appearance, as the creases and wrinkles in the skin overlying those muscles are smoothed out and softened.
What Should I Expect?
The effects from Botox usually last three to four months. As the effects wear off, the muscle contractions begin to return. Wrinkles and lines can start to reappear and will likely need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles will appear less severe with time as the muscles get used to being relaxed.
